Lia the Fabulous
By: Fatima Hernandez

                                                                Chapter 1: Lia

I woke up and realized it was now time to go perform my song and make my debut! To make sure I didn't mess up the lyrics, I decided to practice them. While practicing, I remembered my training days and how hard they were.

Chapter 2: A Look at the Past

"Turn the music down. It's late already!" screamed my mom from downstairs.
I turned off the music but still kept singing quietly.
"Here. I got the paper for the audition so you can start your training." My mom handed me the paper and my jaw just dropped.
"I … I don't know what to say … thank you! Thank you so much!" I said while jumping up and down. I ran to my room and started practicing songs.

Chapter 3: Artist in the Making

While my mom was taking me to the company where I would audition so I could start my training, I was getting really nervous.
"I can tell you're nervous," said my mom. "Everything will be alright. I'm sure you'll pass! You have a lot of talent."
"Thanks," I said while getting out of the car since we were now here.
"Good luck. I believe in you."
I went inside and was welcomed by two ladies who looked nice! "You must be Lia," said one of them while reaching in to shake my hand. "Nice to meet you. My name is Kate. This is Ruth," said Kate.
"Nice to meet both of you."
"Come on, we need to go to the room where your audition will take place at." As we were walking, I overhead them talking about how I was overweight and probably wouldn't pass the audition.
"Go inside. We'll wait outside," said Ruth.
When I went in, there was a guy playing a guitar.
     "Hello?" I said.
     "Oh hello there! Lia right?"
"Yup, I'm Lia. Nice to meet you."
"I'm Daniel. Let's waste no time and go on with your audition." I went ahead and got ready. Daniel played a song which I knew so I started to sing. Halfway through the song he stopped it.
"Wow. You sing very nice. Not the best but I like it. You still need to improve but congratulations you made it in the company!"
"Wow! Thank you! Thank you so much!" I said in excitement.
"Of course! You can go with Kate and Ruth."
I went outside and Kate said, "Congratulations! Now we need to start working on a few things." She started walking to another room and I followed. When we went inside, Kate put a weight scale down and looked at me.
"It seems like your weight isn't the best." I just stood there and didn't say anything. "What are you waiting for? Go! Check your weight or no one will ever like an overweight artist!" I went and stood on the scale. It said I weighed 148 pounds. "You really have to lose a lot of weight."
"Everyone has always said my weight was fine though."
She burst out laughing like if I said a really funny joke. "If you don't lose weight by the time you're going to debut, we'll just cancel it. Simple as that."

Chapter 4: From Large to Small

After what Kate told me, I decided to start working out. It was eight in the morning and I was exercising with other trainees. I didn't have anything to eat so I felt kind of dizzy, but I just ignored it. While I was lifting up weights, I accidentally dropped them which hit my left foot really bad.
     "Ow!"
"Oh no. Are you okay?" said one of the trainees inside there.
"Yeah. I'm fine," I said while grabbing my stuff and leaving quickly. In my mind I just kept thinking––Why can I never do anything right? You'll never be a singer! You always do everything wrong!
I went to a practice room and decided to practice singing. While practicing my voice kept cracking and I was starting to get mad at myself. "Maybe I'll just never truly be a singer. I should give up."
Tears started forming, but I wiped them and just kept practicing.
     Two Hours Later . . .

It was now 10 am and I decided to go back to exercising. While exercising again I felt very dizzy but I ignored it. With every movement I made, my eyes wanted to close and just sleep but last night I had slept well.
Suddenly, everything went black. I felt someone shaking my body and telling me to wake up.
When I opened my eyes, I saw that it was Ruth. "Come on, Lia! Don't be like that! Weak! It's not that hard to exercise! Now get up and keep working!" While I was getting up, she had already left.
That word she had said, weak, stuck with me.

Chapter 5: Is it Time? It is Time?

A few months have passed and I went from a size large to small.
"Congratulations, Lia. You went from 148 pounds to 120," said Kate.
"Isn't that too little? What if I die because of how skinny I am! Look! You can even see my bones."
"Relax, you will be fine. Everyone's going to love you! Lia the fabulous!" said Kate. "Your singing has even improved a lot! Oh this is going to be amazing!"
     "Thanks."
Today I was going to go record my song which I had been writing with Daniel and a producer. My debut would probably be in a week or less.
"There you are," said Daniel. "I've been looking all over for you!"
"Oh sorry. I was with Kate," I said while going towards Daniel.
"Let's go! We're going to record your song," said Daniel in excitement.
     One Hour Later . . .

We had now finished recording my song! I would be debuting soon.
"Good job, Lia! Everyone’s going to love you!" said Daniel.
"Thank you! Oh I can't wait to debut. When do I debut? Is it time yet? Is it time?"

                                                           Chapter 6: It is Time

It's now time for me to debut.
While I was backstage, I saw my mom in the crowd crying.
Today I become Lia the Fabulous.
     It is now time.
