Almost a Year

Almost a year. 
It's almost been a year, 
a year without any friends 
or any family. 
A year without any hugs 
from my aunts or uncles. 
It has almost been a year without 
waking up at seven in the morning 
and getting ready for school. 
Almost a year since 
seeing my friends 
and my teachers. 
Almost a year without 
seeing my principal 
and finding birds with him. 
It has almost been a year 
since I have stepped 
a foot into Esperanza Elementary. 
All this time I haven't seen 
my friends or family 
but I can still see their 
faces online.
